Backdating of Compensation Rates
The recent confirmation from the Department of Agriculture, Food and the Marine (DAFM) concerning TB compensation payments will be welcome news to many farmers. According to the Government statement, TB compensation payments will be backdated to February and issued in due course.
This should go some distance to alleviate the concerns of the many farmers who have received inadequate compensation payments in the wake of a TB outbreak.
The news that payments will be backdated comes in the wake of a decision by the TB Stakeholders Forum, reached in February of this year, to increase TB payments effective the 1st of February 2023.
What the Department Said
The Department statement, as recently reported by Agriland.ie, says that:
"The TB Forum concluded agreement on proposed changes to compensation criteria proposed by the Financial Working Group of the forum including changes to Income Supplement, Hardship Grant and Depopulation Grant rates and a transitional Animal Health Law support with effect from February 1. The changes to these schemes require significant changes to the Department’s IT systems which have been ongoing in recent months. It is hoped that these changes will be finalised soon. In the meantime, the existing rates are still paid. Any additional compensation due to farmers as a result of these changes will be backdated and issued in due course.”
